Welcome to the United Kingdom Dodge Ball Association Newsletter

This Newsletter was created to provide News and information on the ever-growing topic of DODGEBALL. Dodgeball’s popularity is rapidly growing in the UK and latest polls indicate it as a close second to online poker in terms of the increasing numbers who are attracted to the sport.

This Newsletter, updated as dodgeball events happen, provides a quick and easy way for you to stay up to date and get the latest information wherever and whenever you need it.

UK CHAMPIONSHIP 2010

The UK Championship 2010 will be held at Hertfordshire Sports Village on 5th June (Saturday). The finals if the UK Womens Championship will be held there on the same date.

HIGHWAYMEN PLUNDER THE SOUTH

Highwaymen_rszMK HIGHWAYMENraided London to take home the South England Championship. The team comprised of players from Northampton Cobras, New City Outlaws and some new faces. Highwaymen showed their championship credentials in the group games, losing just once to Southampton Uni 2nds in their final round one encounter, after they were already sure of their place in the Play-offs

Highwaymen faced Warwick Uni II in the final. It was a fierce battle, going to all seven games as the match seesawed back and forth throughout. The MK team clinching the title with a 4-2 vitory.

Southampton Uni 1sts won the 3rd place match against Spartans (Milton Keynes) to secure their place at the UK Championships in June.

Jammy Dodgers keep trophy at home

JDchamps2_rszJammy Dodgers retained the Central Championship title, taking full advantage of their home venue, in Hinckley. They got the better of their close rivals Leicester City Ligers in the final, to make it 2-2 for the season in finals played between the two teams. JD had cruised through to the final, except for tough resistance from Harborough Hurricanes A in the quarter-finals, the teams were 1-1 after 3 games before JD stamped their authority on the match with two 4-0 wins.

University of Bedford I took 3rd place and a spot in the UK Championship, by getting the better of Imperial Wolverines.

Yorkshire trophy goes to Leicester

LCLwinners_rszLeicester City Ligers won their 5th trophy of the season and their second in 2010, at the Yorkshire Open. They defeated Vipers A (Halifax) 4-0 in the Final.

Fifty-Fifty, a mix of Leicester players from Snoop Dodge and Minotaur Dodgeball, won 3rd place over Vipers B. The Halifax second team had to overcome fierce resistance from rookie team AC Red Dragons (Cramlington), winning by 3-2 to make it into the semi-finals.

Ligers take home the cup!

Leicester City Ligers claimed their 4th Trophy of the season at the South West Open, to bounce back from their reversal in Essex. They had to fight from Match One, when they fought out a 4-3 win over Cross Fire (Abergavenny) coming from 2-3 down to defeat their Welsh opponents.

The Leicester team then cruised through the rest of their group matches and their semi-final before coming up against local team, The Muffin Divers, in the final. The Exeter boys energy and agility could not quite match the experience and power of the Uk’s No.1 team, Leicester running out 3-0 winners, in the best-of-7 Final, after being held to 3-3 draws in games two and four.

Sam Pickett (Leicester City Ligers) won the Last Man Standing competition, it was the first time Sam has won a LMS as he continued the LCL tradition for producing Last Man winners. For full tournament results click here.

JAMMY DODGERS WIN IN ESSEX!

Jammy Dodgers travelled home to Hinckley with the Essex Open trophy, to win their first tournament of the season. They came up against Leicester City Ligers for the 3rd time this season in a final and reversed the result from the previous two encounters, winning by four games to two.

JDattackJD cruised through to the semi-final, winning 5-0 in all group matches, but then came up against UoB Dodgeball I (University of Bedford). The new boys, in their first tournament, pushed the veteran Leicestershire outfit all the way. UoB held the UK Champs to a 2-2 draw in the first game and then moved into a 2-1 lead by game 4, forcing Jammy Dodgers to move into top gear and demolish the students by 6-0 in the remaining 3 games. UoB still had a good day; they finished 3rd and their III team came 5th, beating their II team into 6th place.

Leicester City Ligers had some consolation, when their captain, Simon Moody, won the Last Man Standing competition. It was the second year he took home this awward from the Essex Open. For full tournament results click here.

Ligers Roar Again!

Leicester City Ligers confirmed their Number One position for the current season by defeating the two-time UK Champions Jammy Dodgers (Hinckley) in the final of the East Midlands Christmas Tournament.

LCLchampsEMX_rszLC Ligers won their third UKDBA event of the season. They cruised through to the semi-final but then had to battle against suprise package Tupton Ball Grabbers A. The relative novices, in only their second tournament, pushed the veteran Leicester outfit to the 7th game, eventually losing by 4-2. Jammy Dodgers also made light work of all their opponents until they met Derby Seahawks 2nds in their semi-final match. They bested their university opposition by the same 4-2 margin, going all the way to the 7th game.

Host team Harborough Homeboiz, fought through to the quarter-final round, but lost out to Derby 2nds by 3-2 in the deciding game. For full tournament results click here.

WARWICK UNIVERSITY No.1

Warwick University Warriors I made the most of their home advantage to become University Dodgeball Champions 2009. They outplayed Derby Seahawks 1sts in the final, winning 4-1.

Warriors I did not loose a single game in their first 6 matches, but in the semi-final they met Warwick Warriors II and had to recover from 2-0 down before coming out 4-2 victors.

Suprise package were Warwick Under 10’s (their 4th team of mostly Freshers). They won their group, but were blasted out 3-0 by Derby 1sts in the Quarter-finals.

The Womens Open was won by Bio-Hazard Dodgettes (Milton Keynes). Bio-Hazard have still to be beaten in any tournament.

The Mixed Team tournament (teams had to field a team of 3 male & 3 female players) had an all-Warwick final. Warwick G beat Warwick Rejectts in the final.

Leicester not so square in London

Leicester City Ligers took home the London Open trophy in spectacular style by beating the 2009 British Champions, Jammy Dodgers, in the final.

LC Ligers ended their Leicestershire neighbour’s 37 match unbeaten run with a 4-2 victory. The Jammy Dodgers had not tasted a tournament defeat since 9th March 2008. The win cements Leicester City Ligers number one spot in the 2009-2010 tournament rankings.

Derby Seahawks 1sts and 2nd teams came 3rd and 4th place and rookie team Imperial I were placed 5th out of the 12 teams, ahead of some more experienced sides.

SEAHAWKS WIN ON SOUTH COAST

Derby Seahawks migrated South and returned to the Midlands with the cup, from the South Coast Open. It was the Derby University club’s first UKDBA trophy success and confirmation that they intend to break into the top four university teams in 2009-10.

LEICESTER GO ONE BETTER

NWchampsLCLaLeicester City Ligers won the North West Open to impove on their 2nd place the week before. They had to play hard to take home the cup, defeating The Dodgefathers in Overtime. The Dodgefathers were in their first UKDBA tournament final and their captain, Ross McGuigan, won the Fastest Throw competition. Last Man Standing champion was Steve Moore, captain of new team Leicester Minotaurs, who made it to the Semi-finals in only their second competitive event.

WARWICK UNI OPENING WEEK CHAMPIONS

WuW1and3 WMid09_rszWarwick University Warriors I took home the spoils from the season’s opening event in Bromsgrove. They defeated Leicester City Ligers in the final by 4 games to 1. Warwick Uni had two reasons to celebrate as Warriors III took 3rd at the West Midlands Open. LC Ligers Sean Jelley (ex-Warwick Uni) won Last Man Standing and Derby Seahawks’ Jay Bird won the fastest Throw competition, but could not match his national record only managing 99 K.P.H.

MENCAP CHARITY SUCCESS - 22/08/2009

There were over 360 players, in 45 teams, at the Mencap Charity Dodgeball Tournament held on 22nd August. The event raised a fantastic £7,300 to help provide vital support for people with learning disabilities, their families and carers. UKDBA provided a 3-man crew of referees to aid the Mencap volunteer officials in the early rounds and officiate the semi-finals and final of this fun, fancy dress event. Tournament champions were TM Legends, a newly registered UKDBA team from South London.
