UKDBA Officials & Coaches

Q: I want to become a referee, how do I become one?

A: Referee Training is available to all members at a minimal cost. Contact us to find out more.

Q: How do I become a dodgeball coach?

A: Coaching courses began in October 2008 and run as a series of 4-hour courses throughout the year.

Q: I want to help promote dodgeball in my local area. How do I become a UKDBA Representative?

A: Just get in touch with us and we will talk to you about the post and sort out the exact area you will work in.

Q: What equipment do I need to start coaching dodgeball in schools?

A: The most important pieces of equipment you need are the balls themselves. These can be obtained from the UKDBA website. For younger players foam balls might be more appropriate, and these can be obtained from a number of sources. Other equipment includes stopwatches, whistles, cones or tape, small benches or cricket stumps (to use as targets). Most schools will have these readily available, but always make sure to ask before the first session in any school about the facilities. It is best to actually visit the facility first so you can see for yourself.

Q: How long does it take the average player to reach a good standard?

A: Dodgeball is a very easy sport to pick up, so most players will grasp the basics very quickly. We expect that with good coaching most players can reach a reasonable standard within 6-7 one hour sessions. Obviously to reach higher standards of play takes more dedication and time, but there are many players in the UK that have reached high standards in under a year.
