BIG CHARITY DODGEBALL WEEKEND SUCCESS

The first weekend in September 2011 proved a big success for Dodgeball charity events.

The third annual Mencap Team Dodgeball Tournament was the biggest event in UK Dodgeball history. 69 teams (over 450 players) in full fancy address competed on Saturday afternoon on eight outdoor pitches in Wimbledon Park. The tournament was played to music from a PA system, with hot food, coconut shy and fastest throw entertaining the contestants between games. There was also a raffle and a holiday auction before the semi-finals.

Mencap raised over £20,000 from this one afternoon of Dodgeball fun.

On Sunday, Enderby Dodgeball Club ran their charity fundraiser on behalf of the Booby Moore Fund (cancer research). 13 teams entered this local event. All teams played in fancy dress but with more serious intent than the Mencap event; there were several Premier League and international players involved.

Winning team were The Smurfs who defeated Enderby club-mates Snoop Dodge in the final, Harborough Hurricanes came 3rd, picked up the prize for best fancy dress (pirates) and their Sarah-Jane Smith won Last Player Standing; best individual fancy dress was the Hulk, Kip Wise (Coventry Cobras).

Enderby Dodgeball Club raised over £1,000 on the day.
